Day Three

Day three was our "break" day in the middle of the trip. It was great to have a day with hardly any driving! It finally felt like we were really camping, and not just driving and sleeping in a tent at night. We had a leisurely morning and went to Mount Rushmore after breakfast cleanup. It was pretty cool.

On the way out of the Rushmore parking lot, there was this mountain goat!

This is Horsethief Lake. It was at our camp; after going to Mount Rushmore, the kids wanted to go swimming. The swimming area was kind of milfoily (or whatever that stuff is that was growing in the water) and so they only waded. Until Noelle got pinched by something and then Ford found the culprit...a crawdad.

This picture is deceptively dark because the flash went off.

We had been told that Mount Rushmore is really cool at night, so we went back after 9 to see it lit up. We were really glad we did, it was worth it!

After leaving the park you go around the mountain and on the road back down, you can see George's profile. Pretty cool!

Day Two

Here we are at the campsite in Montana! It was a cold morning but once the sun was up it warmed up really fast.

Enjoying a cinnamon roll (or as Anastasia called it, a "cookie")

Antelope out in a field!

Someone was following me like the whole trip.

The kids in the back, watching a movie.

We saw a LOT of motorcycles, starting this day and through the end of the trip.

We came through Wyoming as the sun was setting and we stopped at a Pizza Hut for some carryout, since we knew we'd be too late to the campsite for dinner. It's a good thing too, since we didn't get in until about 11pm. The site was very nice though, and the night was so warm that we left the rain fly off the tent and didn't even need long sleeved pj's. Our camp this night was South Dakota, 3 miles from Mt. Rushmore. Pictures of Day 3 coming soon!

Day One

Hooray for internet!
This will be the first of several installments of our moving trip...this is Day One.
Here are some of the rooms of our house, emptied out as we moved out...

(Here you can see that Matthew had started moving in)

Bye house!! We'll miss you!!

Heading out of Spokane

In the U-Haul

I *think* this was Lookout pass? Or maybe 4th of July.

At a rest stop outside Missoula for lunch.

Close to the rest stop was a pretty creek, where we walked down to have noonday :-)

Okay, Montana lasts forever...but it is beautiful!

Sun setting as we finally drew close to our camp for the night.

We got there at dusk and set up camp, getting the tent up and making a late dinner in the dark. Many thanks to Forrest, Hilary and Ford for all their help in making that happen and most of all for putting up with my attitude that night! The campsite was pretty, in the mountains in Montana, right near a creek. The night was co-o-old and although the boys were going to sleep in the pup tent, we decided it would be better to all huddle in the one big tent. The stars were absolutely BREATHTAKING and there was a meteor shower going on too, so we got to see several shooting stars! It was a fun adventure.
